My wife was recently a patient in your facility, and although the treatment was very good and on target for what she was there for, the sanitation, from her account, was non existent. Rooms weren't swept or mopped, and one of the psychiatrist does not speak English well enough to communicate with the patients. At least clean the patient rooms and make sure that the doctor is able to communicate with a patient to help with their issue.flag

I have mixed feelings about this place. Half the Nurses are nice, but some nurses should not be there. I was a patient there back in April 2019 and I was never told my actual diagnosis at the exit meeting. They don’t separate the more mentally ill patients from the more alert. They kept me over 14 days without telling me why more than recommend by state law. I was doing better, but they never scheduled a follow up to see if I needed out patient programs.flag

Very poor hospital program. People that go into that sort of place is in desperate dire need of help. Last resort. Several of the young female nurses were a complete joke. Rude and snickered behind patients backs. Never seen such poor professionalism. I have the names of these nurses wrote down and when I get home I plan to come back on and write them down. People really need to be "fit" for that work environment. People that are patients need loving, patient, non judgemental help. The employees really need to be looked a thin that unit!!!!! Not all, but many.flag

Sorry excuse for an IOP. If you spend the money to go thru their rehab, then they will help you thru IOP. Otherwise they will target those that do not attend their rehab and change their story when you talk to them. Find SOMEWHERE ELSE TO ATTEND that will actually help!!!flag

I DO NOT recommend this facility to anyone, the staff is very unprofessional and insensitive. Starting with the Director of the facility, Kelly Tripp, she would not return calls to the parents of a loved one in their care, not even a simple courteous professional call back. Go anywhere else but Ten Broeck, they just want to bill your insurance for their poor services and don't care about services to their patients. Very unprofessional.flag

my nephew was at Ten Broeck and they helped him very much. He is still sober and doing very well. He was very fearful about going into a place they were patient with him and explained everything. All the staff were helpful.flag

This place is a rats nest. DONT put your loved here. This safe place was so scary and I did everything in my power to get out and go home, then to Blount Memorial EHR center. I would love to be able to give them a #0 but that was not available. I’m very traumatized by this place. I was there against my will and my families will. I was on 6 different antidepressants and was wanting to stop taking them to try and get my old self back again. I hope no one is ever sent to this place ever. No one would let me make a call and all my rights were taken away and destroyed me. I was so upset that all I could do was cry. I had to stay overnight and that was beyond terrifying. I did not sleep at all. The beds are a mattress on a wooden block, very uncomfortable and really no give in the rocked hard mattress. All I can say is that this is a hell hole. Thankfully I was able to leave the next day, I really don’t know how I would be able to take anymore of having to be there. Thank God I got out.flag

If you want true treatment find another faciility. This place just gets you in long enough to Bill insured then discharge you. They treated me for 3 days for benzodiazepines detox. It's almost 3 months later and still having issues. Ten Broeck only made my recovery more difficultflag

I'm giving this hospital one star cause I was a patient up there at that hospital in the mental behavior unit and there was a girl laying down in one of the chairs near the elevators she needed medical attention but they refuse to give it to her plus when the nurses give you the wrong kind of medication to the patients and they can't have that kind I wouldn't recommend ten broeck for pyschologicial treatment I think the mental behavior unit needs to be shut down for other different grounds for behavior treatment I hate this hospital probily one of the worse hospitals to go to for medical treatmentflag

Ten Broeck staff lied to us numerous times. They told me my daughter would not be committed until after seeing a doctor first but they coerced her into signing paperwork admitting herself before seeing anyone. They told her if she refused the process would be longer. They lied to my husband and me and told us that she signed paperwork at the previous hospital. They never explained to her what signing herself in voluntarily actually meant. They don’t know the difference between cutting and attempted suicide. There were no stitches! They are morons. They are rude. They never told my daughter she could leave at any time before signing the paperwork. They were intimidating and dishonest and awful.flag

I've been inpatient @ Ten Broeck most recent was 3rd time. The 3rd time I was very displeased with the uncleanliness of the bathrooms, and overall appearance of the unit. Most distressing was the poor structure of various patients being placed all together in one group area, where there were some patient's who were completely out of contact with reality, often with access to grab onto other patients, which increased anxiety. I feel there was far too much stimulation ongoing in group room at once, i.e. Television and a CD/Radio both playing at the same time, thus increasing the sensitivity of patient's who needed to be in a calm, soothing environment. There was a physical fight between two male patients, that caused blood on the floor, and it took numerous requests to staff to clean the blood up. The staff allowed the patients to be very messy not holding them accountable to clean up after themselves, such as cups, papers, etc. Everywhere. Needs huge improvementflag

Treatment:

Alcoholism:

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Dual Diagnosis:

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse:

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid Addiction:

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Levels of care:

Outpatient:

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Medically Assisted Detox:

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Intensive Outpatient:

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Inpatient:

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Clinical services:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Experiential Therapy:

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group Therapy:

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy:

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma Therapy:

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
